Hai Phong has 42,000ha of water surface, of which brackish water surface is 14,400ha and saltwater is 17,400ha. In the past five years, although the aquaculture area increased by 2.3 percent per year (intensive and semi-intensive culture area alone accounted for 33 percent with growth rate of 13-15 percent a year), the average production boosted by 14 percent per year. And the aquaculture production in 2006 was 38,500MT. The value of aquaculture production rose by 16-18 percent per year and stood at VND453 billion in 2006.
