Fisheries production in Q1/2010

 In March, aquaculture throughout the country, especially Pangasius farming, showed promising signals compared with late 2009 months.

The catch landings also increased by 3.9 percent over Q1/2009, reaching 605,000MT, of which marine catch was 560,000MT.

Seafood exports in Q1 came in at US$861 million, an increase of 14.5 percent over Q1/2009.

VASEP said shrimp is now a highly potential export item of the seafood sector. In addition to such traditional markets as Europe and EU, Viet Nam shrimp exporters plan to further boost exports to Japan and South Korea. Black tiger shrimp export value alone is forecast to generate at least US$1.4 billion in 2010.
