Australia favors Vietnam seafood

(vasep.com.vn) Australia annually imports more than 200,000 MT of seafood products, worth by over US$1 billion from foreign countries in which Vietnam is the third largest seafood supplier to the market behind New Zealand and China with the market share of 20 percent, according to Vietnam Trade Office in Australia.

Through May 2014, Vietnam exported nearly US$89 million of seafood products to the market, up 41 percent year on year.

Among seafood products, shrimp was the most-consumed in Australia with annual consumption of 50,000 MT. The country imports 25,000 MT of shrimp and the remaining is sourced from the domestic supply. Australian consumers are increasingly favoring frozen shrimp imported from Thailand and Vietnam thanks to its reasonable price and increasingly high quality.

To boost exports to Australia, Vietnam seafood exporters are selling high quality products with clear origin to the market. Besides, Vietnam enterprises are building and promoting the image of Vietnam seafood products in Australian market.
