Investment activities and production in aquaculture continue to be paid attention and focus on advantaged objects and products. However, unfavorable weather condition in the beginning of the year and fresh water shortage affected aquaculture. Productivity and output of some farming areas in Northern provinces and the Central are lower than that of the same period; the black tiger shrimp specialized farming area also reduces. Farming households change to raise whiteleg shrimp, sea bass, grouper, goby and to polyculture black tiger shrimp with Bostrichthys sinensis and crab which are with high economic efficiency. Some new objects have been moved to farm in fresh water such as Anabas testudineus, freshwater crab, hemibagrus guttatus …Clam and oyster aquaculture continues to develop. In the first 9 months of 2010, 492,000 ha of water surface is used for aquaculture nationwide, up more than 88,000 ha compared to August, 2010 mainly due to the operation of aquaculture projects.
According to statistics, aquaculture continues to thrive substantially and comprehensively in Mekong Delta.
Breeding production is continuously enhanced. Besides black tiger shrimp breeding development, production technology of many new farmed species is applied successfully such as sea crab, clam, oyster, goby, hemibagrus guttatus… Coastal aquaculture is developed considerably and moved toward safe and sustainable commodity production. Although aquaculture enjoys good growth, it is not really stable and firm.
