According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), the fisheries sector achieved significant successes in both wild-catch and aquaculture in 2009.
Fisheries output in 2009 amounted to 4.788 million MT, up 4 percent over last year, of which catch landings netted 2.271 million MT, and aquaculture production 2.517 million MT, up 6.3 percent and 2.1 percent respectively against 2008.
According to the General Statistics Office, seafood production value in 2009 increased by 4.57 percent, while total value of the agriculture and rural development sector rose by 2.8 percent against last year. Pangasius and shrimp are two key products with the export value of more than US$1 billion, along with rice, coffee, rubber and wooden products. (VietFishNews)
