204 seafood enterprises allowed to export to Argentina

(vasep.com.vn) The National Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance Department of Vietnam (NAFIQAD) and the National Food Safety and Quality Service of Argentina (Senasa) has recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on agro-fisheries exports, opening opportunities for Vietnamese seafood processors.

Accordingly, Vietnam has 204 seafood processors allowed to export their products to Argentina. Senasa will consider increasing the number in the coming time.

The MoU regulates that each consignment of Vietnamese seafood to Argentina must have a health certificate granted by NAFIQAD.

According to Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), in the face of shrinking markets in EU and the U.S., expanding the new market will help Vietnamese seafood exporters maintain production and boost exports.

Through May 2014, Vietnam’s export turnover to Argentina reached nearly US$64.5 million with main products like rubber, garment, footwear, garment and footwear materials, and ceramics, Vietnam Customs statistics showed.

In South America, Vietnamese seafood has just penetrated Brazil with main product – pangasius.  Its five-month seafood export value was more than US$52 million, trailing behind mobile handsets and components.
