Viet Nam needs 5.7Mln MT of seafood raw material for export processing

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) reported the local processors would need 4.6 million MT of raw materials in 2015, and 5.7 million MT in 2020.

MARD has introduced numerous measures to assure adequate raw material supply, which focus on farming linkage and application of advanced technologies.

MARD will boost investments in aquaculture infrastructure in response to processing requirements.

The fishing fleets with the support of the service and logistic vessels will be gathered into groups and teams. Proper classification and preservation methods will be used to assure high-quality of the catch. Fishing port and auction market system will be established to maintain product’s quality.

MARD also plans to import around 600,000MT of seafood in 2015, and one million MT of seafood in 2020. Priorities will be given to species that are not available in Viet Nam market.

Actual requirements will be taken into consideration when seafood import regulations are developed. Quality control and traceability will be made according to Vietnamese and international standards.
