(vasep.com.vn) In July 2013, total fisheries production was estimated to reach 667 thousand MT (up 10.2 percent from the same period of 2012) in which capture production hit 213 thousand MT (+3.9 percent) and aquaculture production was 354 thousand MT (+14.3 percent).
In the first 7 months of 2013, total fisheries production was estimated to touch over 3,283 thousand MT (up 2.6 percent from Jan-Jul 2012), including capture production of over 1,524 thousand MT (+2 percent) and aquaculture production of 1,759 thousand MT (+3.1 percent).
Through 20 Jul 2013, total shrimp production generated 115,000 MT in which black tiger shrimp took up 85,000 MT (down 19,8 percent from that of the same period of 2012) and the rest made up of whiteleg shrimp with 30.000 MT (+41,6 percent).
In Jul 2013, 9 pangasius farming provinces harvested fish in an area of 895 hectares. Cumulative harvested area has been so far 3,568 hectares, providing a total production of 620,000 MT, down 12,8 percent in terms of surface but up 1.1 percent in production compared to the same period of 2012. In Vietnam, pangasius farming areas were down of 17.6 percent from that of the same time of the previous year.
