Chilean fishmeal export values soared in January compared to the same month a year ago as Chinese sales soared.
According to InfoTrade, the domestic fishmeal export value in January 2013 was US$59.6 million, an increase of 60% compared to US$36 million in the same month in 2012.
Exported tons totaled 32,000 tons, a 10% increase from 2012's 29,000 tons. Meanwhile the average price the product reached US$1.86 per ton up 51% compared US$1.23 per ton in 2012..
China was the top market, with sales reaching US$39.5 million, representing 66.4% of total shipments in January 2013. This figure is 50% higher than the same period last year when sales were $20 million.
Corpesca was the leading exporting company accounting for 9,940 t, valued at US$18.7 million. Pesquera Camanchaca followed, with 4,952 tons worth $ 9 million.
