By 2020, marine catches reach 2.2 million MT

Recently, the Directorate of Fisheries has carried out the consultation on the draft of this scheme. Under the scheme, by 2020, total marine catches reached 2.2 million MT per year (in which, near-shore waters: from 0.6 to 0.7 million MT and offshore from 1.4 - 1.5 million MT). Besides, the stable fishing fleets will be kept with 30 percent of net, 18 percent of fishing line, 18percent of gill nets, 12 percent of purse seine and 20 percent of others.

 Besides, the scheme will maintain the stable employment and income for 1.2 – 1.3 million fishermen in which about 0.6 million people work directly on board; raise the average income of fishermen up 2.5 times compared to now; universalize the basic knowledge about resource protection, skills to work on fishing vessels for 60 – 80 percent of fishermen; train and license for 100 percent of captains and chief engineers.

With these targets, the scheme towards improving the quality, contributing to diversify the rural economy, efficient use of inside and outside resources, contributing to poverty reduction in rural areas will be successful.
