(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first months of 2026, IUU prevention models focused on communication and mobilizing fishermen to comply with fisheries laws and avoid encroaching on foreign waters—related to combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing—have been implemented in coastal localities of Lam Dong province and have delivered initial positive results.
According to the Provincial Border Guard Command, which manages nearly 830 fishing vessels with close to 4,000 workers, fishermen have strictly complied with legal regulations in fishing activities. Since 2025, no cases have been recorded of local fishing vessels violating foreign waters for illegal fishing, in contrast to the situation in previous years.
The model has been widely deployed in several areas, including Lien Huong commune and Phan Thiet ward, with coordination among police forces, border guards, and local authorities. As a result, communication and legal dissemination efforts have been strengthened, helping fishermen better understand regulations and proactively comply, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of IUU prevention.
Local authorities noted that these activities not only support fishermen in complying with the law but also contribute to protecting local waters, maintaining security and order, and promoting sustainable fisheries development.
