(fis.com) Japan’s major tsunami and the subsequent nuclear disaster has affected about 40 percent of Japanese food companies, based on a Japan Finance Corporation food industry survey done during the second half of 2011.
About 35 percent of food-related institutions in Japan including manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, and restaurants said they still felt the impact of the quake and the tsunami.
To cope with the effects of the earthquake, around 54 percent of the companies said they had to switch and cultivate new suppliers, products, and commodities.
Another 28 percent choose to be transparent and provide accurate information, while another 24 percent aimed to create and strengthen delivery destination and distribution channels. Some also coped by inspecting radioactivity and dealing with harmful rumors about radioactivity.
