In August, 149,500 tonnes of seafood were landed in Peruvian ports, representing 22.8 per cent more than in the same month of 2012, when landings totalled 121,700 tonnes. This increase was primarily due to a larger catch of anchovies.
First eight months of 2013, it has been observed that total landings declined by 17.1 per cent year-on-year, changing from 4 million tonnes in 2012 to 3.3 million tonnes this year.
According to the latest Statistical Bulletin prepared by the Ministry of Production(Produce), in the eighth month of 2013 a total of 67,700 tonnes of fishing resources was landed for the fishmeal industry, 141.7 per cent more than in the same month in 2012 (28,000 tonnes).
During the period from January to August, 2.6 million tonnes of fish were used for indirect consumption compared to 3.2 million tonnes in 2012, that is to say, 19.6 per cent less.
In August 81,800 tonnes of fishing resources were landed for direct human consumption, compared to 93,700 tonnes in the same month of 2012.
During the first eight months of 2013, a total of 777,600 tonnes of fishing resources were used for direct consumption, representing 7.3 per cent less than last year (839,000 tonnes).
Last August, 37,700 tonnes were landed for the preparation of frozen products while in the same month of 2012 a total of 53,900 tonnes had been unloaded.
Between January and August this year, the accumulated landings for the industry totalled 409,100 tonnes, representing 11.5 per cent less than in the same period in 2012, when 462,000 tonnes had been unloaded.
On the other hand, the fishery resources used by the canning industry in August 2013 totalled 11,300 tonnes compared with 7,300 tonnes in the same month last year.
Considering the period from January to August, there was a decrease of 17.2 per cent in the resources used by the canning industry: 76,800 tonnes compared to 92,700 tonnes in the same period of 2012.
Landings for direct human consumption in fresh state last August reached about 30,400 tonnes while in the same month last year they had been 29,900 tonnes.
In the first eight months of 2013, 263,900 tonnes of resources were landed for fresh consumption, 1.4 per cent more than in the same period in 2012 (260,300 tonnes).
