(vasep.com.vn) The seafood industry has targeted US$7.5 billion in export revenue by 2015, with an annual growth rate of more than 8 percent, export value from aquaculture accounts for 70 percent and the proportion of value-added products make up over 60 percent.
These are the targets announced for the Seafood Export Development Programme until 2015, that was approved by the Prime Minister in March 8th 2012.
Under the programme, the industry will also strive to increase seafood export volume of 1.62 million MT by 2015.According to the orientation by 2020, seafood exports continue to be the key source of earnings of agriculture industry and the country, contribute significantly to developing sustainably rural economy. Export turnover is expected to touch US$10-10.5 billion with the growth rate of more than 7 percent per year.
To fulfil the above targets, the programme draws out strategies such as maintaining and developing import markets, intensifying export activities and trade promotion, stabilizing supply of quality raw material, boosting value-added seafood products for export, strengthening inspection and supervision of seafood production, ensuring food safety and hygiene and quality.
