Local fishers’ income has been improved thanks to a bumper harvest of penicilated shrimp, sprat and squid, said the department.
The province’s aquaculture area in the last five months stood at 2,900ha with an output of 3,700MT. Shrimp farming area in the first crop was 600ha, with an output of 1,700MT. Currently, farmers are treating ponds to prepare for the second crop stocking in an area of 450ha.
To achieve catch landings target of 17,700MT in 2010, the provincial authorities are instructing local fishers to speed up production, at the same time, help local farmers expand whiteleg shrimp farming area in compliance with the approved plan.
