According to Nghe An’s Sub-Department of Fisheries Resource Protection, the local catch landings in 2009 amounted to 52,000MT, an increase of approximately 1,000MT over last year.
Catch landings increased, but the number of fishing vessels decreased, especially vessels of 20HP or less. The number of small fishing vessels was 300 fewer than that of 2008. However, the number of fishing vessels of 90HP upwards increased rapidly, totaling more than 806.
The Sub-Department also reported that farmed shrimp output in 2009 amounted to 2,605MT, including 1,647MT of whiteleg shrimp, with the average of 10MT per ha per crop. (VietFishNews)
