Movimar satellites prevent risks during fishing trips
(vasep.com.vn) In the recent years, severe and unpredictable weather has been affecting Vietnam fishing activities, leading to poor results of fishing trips. To deal with the problem, a project on installing movimar satellite machine on offshore fishing boats (VMS) was kicked off in Vietnam’s 28 coastal provinces.
The Movimar project runs from 2011 to 2013 with total investment funded by French government’s official development assistances (ODA). The satellite allows coastal monitoring stations to position fishing boats and fishermen to find fish grounds.
Two years since the project was carried out, it has made a great contribution to ensuring fishermen’s safety during their distant fishing trips as well as the border security and sovereignty of Vietnam.
“With the movimar satellites, fishermen have a new information source, along with the existing ones, to help them rapidly update weather forecast or even call for the help of monitoring stations in urgent cases,” said Tran Quang Minh, deputy head of Nha Trang Monitoring Station.
