MARD urged to improve fishing forcasting activities

(VASEPNews) At the meeting of forcasting fishing grounds and season held in late March 2012, Cao Duc Phat - Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development assigned Directorate of Fisheries (D-Fish) in cooperation with Research Institute for Marine Fisheries (RIMF) and relevant agencies to draw out the project on marine fishing ground prediction in order to submit the Minister of MARD prior to June 30th 2012.

The project needs to clarify forecasting area, method, technology and the application of scientific advances, information technology, Remote Sensing (RS) in forecasting activities. Prior to 2015, the fisheries industry strives to forecast accurately fishing season, main marine fish fishery on the basis of monthly forecast, key fishing grounds. After 2015, information of fishing grounds will be forecasted fortnightly, even weekly or instantly.

In the near time, D-Fish must review data collection system on commercial fisheries, investigate fish stocks and oceanological information which will be accurate data serving for forecasting activities.

To have instant, short-term, long-term forecasts on fishing grounds which take advantage of advanced technologies, the Minister asked RIMF to work out a proposal on building a professional forecast center, strengthen international cooperation, and send experts abroad for studying in the countries which have advanced technology in fishing ground forecast.
