China to invest US$155 million in Indonesia's fishery sector

(seafood.com) The Chinese government has committed to disbursing Rp1.4 trillion (US$155) to the maritime and fishery sector.

Maritime and Fishery Minister Sharif Cicip Sutardjo said the collaboration with China would last for five years. 'The commitment is one of the agreements between Indonesia and China to develop the blue economy,' he said.

The blue economy relates to sustainable management and the preservation of maritime resources, which covers food security, climate change, research cooperation as well as improved awareness about maritime issues.

The agreement was signed by Sharif and Chinese State Oceanic Administration (SOA) administrator, Liu Cigui, in Beijing, last week. The agreement was part of the Arrangement on the Development of Indonesia-China Center for Ocean and Climate (ICCOC).

The cooperation will be followed by the establishment of ICCOC in five locations: Natuna Islands in Riau, Perancak in Bali, Morotai Island in North Maluku and two other areas in eastern Indonesia.
