Pangasius farming area in the Mekong Delta in 8 months was estimated at 6,400 hectares, producing 685 thousand MT. As reported by Provincial Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development of Mekong Delta, pangasius volume reduced in most provinces, Pangasius prices were low, discouraging farmers and fish did not reach standard size. In Vinh Long province, it is rainy season and diseases happened in pangasius ponds.

The production of black tiger shrimp in Mekong Delta in August remained stable. Total area of black tiger shrimp of some provinces decreased in the first 8 months of 2014, comparing to the same period last year. Kien Giang was the only province that grew in both area and production. Volume of black tiger shrimp in Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Ho Chi Minh City were down. The former produced 939 MT, down 6.7%, and the latter yielded 881 MT, down 6.7%.

In the first 8 months of 2014, total capture output was 1,882 thousand MT, up 4.6% year on year. Marine fish reached 1,760 thousand MT, up 10.5% yoy. Meanwhile, tuna were captured in three key provinces. Output of Khanh Hoa grew sharply with 8,000 MT while that of Binh Dinh reached 6,301 MT, up 1.6% and Phu Yen contributed 3,365 MT, down 18.5%.
