Phát triển nhanh vì nhiều ưu điểm<br><br>Cá rô phi (tên khoa học là Tilapia) là tên gọi chỉ chung cho các loài cá nước ngọt phổ biến, sống tại các sông suối, kênh rạch, ao hồ. Đây là giống cá thuộc họ Cichlidae gồm nhiều chủng, có nguồn gốc phát sinh từ châu Phi và Trung Đông. Một trong những loài đặc hữu của họ cá này là cá điêu hồng và rô phi sông Nile.<br><br>Rô phi là một loại cá tăng trưởng nhanh, khỏe mạnh, từ lâu đã trở thành nguồn protein chủ yếu ở nhiều quốc gia đang phát triển và gần đây có nhu cầu cao ở các nước phát triển. Thịt cá rô phi ngọt, bùi, giàu khoáng, ít mỡ, lượng đạm vừa phải, có vị ngọt, tính bình, không độc, có tác dụng bồi bổ cơ thể. Bên cạnh đó, rô phi còn là loài khá dễ nuôi, có lợi đối với người nuôi bởi không kén thức ăn, có chỉ số tăng trưởng nhanh đồng bộ với khối lượng thức ăn tiêu thụ, sinh sản nhanh và trong điều kiện đơn giản, ít bị nhiễm bệnh ký sinh, tỉ lệ tổn thất trong chăn nuôi tương đối ít... Và điều quan trọng nhất là chúng có giá khá rẻ. Có lẽ đây là lý do giải thích vì sao mới chỉ trong một thời gian ngắn, cá rô phi lại phát triển nhanh đến vậy?<br>Mỹ ưa chuộng cá rô phi<br><br>Năm 2000, cá rô phi chưa xuất hiện trong danh sách 10 loài thủy sản được tiêu thụ hàng đầu tại Mỹ. Năm 2002, loài cá này mới bắt đầu lọt vào top 10 thì kể từ đó đến nay, loài cá này đã không ngừng thăng hạng. Với lượng tiêu thụ trung bình 0,3 pound/người, tăng lên 1,19 pound/người năm 2008, 1,2 pound/người năm 2009 và 1,45 pound/người năm 2010 - vượt qua cả cá minh thái (Alaska 1,192 pound/người), vốn giữ vị trí thứ 4 trong năm 2008 và 2009. Việc cá rô phi leo lên vị trí thứ 4 trong danh sách 10 loài thủy sản được ưa chuộng nhất tại Mỹ năm 2010 hoàn toàn không làm ngạc nhiên giới thủy sản nước này. Theo dự đoán, năm 2015, cá rô phi sẽ còn tiếp tục leo lên vị trí thứ 2 hoặc 3 trong bảng xếp hạng và đến năm 2020, loài cá này có thể trở thành thủy sản số một được tiêu thụ tại Mỹ.<br><br>Cá rô phi là mặt hàng thủy sản được nhập khẩu lớn thứ ba vào Mỹ, sau tôm và cá hồi. Trong 10 tháng đầu năm 2010, kim ngạch nhập khẩu cá rô phi của Mỹ tăng 15% so với cùng kỳ năm 2009.<br><br>Với việc đáp ứng đầy đủ các tiêu chí giá về chất lượng, giá cả và dễ mua, chắc chắn cá rô phi không những tăng trưởng mạnh tại thị trường Mỹ mà sẽ còn trở thành một loài được ưa chuộng tại nhiều thị trường lớn khác trên thế giới.<br><br> <br><br>Cơ hội để ngỏ cho Việt Nam<br><br>Hàng năm, trên thế giới có khoảng 2,8 triệu tấn cá rô phi được sản xuất, trong đó 73% là cá nuôi. Phần lớn cá rô phi được sản xuất ở Trung Quốc, tiếp đến là Đài Loan, Ai Cập, Indonesia, Thái Lan, Malaysia và Philippines. Năm 2010, Trung Quốc đã sản xuất 1,2 triệu tấn cá rô phi, giảm 13% so với năm 2009. Xuất khẩu cá rô phi Trung Quốc, bất chấp tình hình thời tiết khắc nghiệt vào đầu năm, vẫn đạt gần 250.000 tấn trong 10 tháng đầu năm 2010, tăng 24% so với cùng kỳ năm 2009.<br><br>Tuy không được liệt vào các “đại gia” sản xuất lớn nhưng các nước Mỹ Latinh như Costa Rica, Honduras và Ecuador vẫn là những nhà cung cấp cá rô phi fillet tươi quan trọng sang thị trường Mỹ.<br><br>Mặc dù được đánh giá là vô cùng tiềm năng nhưng dường như các doanh nghiệp xuất khẩu Việt Nam vẫn chưa thực sự chú trọng tới thị trường cá rô phi tại Mỹ. Điều này thể hiện qua việc kim ngạch xuất khẩu mặt hàng này của Việt Nam còn khá hạn chế. Trong tháng 8/2009, xuất khẩu cá rô phi của Việt Nam chỉ đạt 18,2 tấn, trị giá 49,7 nghìn USD, chiếm 0,1% tổng lượng nhập khẩu cá rô phi của Mỹ. Trong khi với điều kiện khí hậu thuận lợi, việc nuôi trồng cá rô phi tại Việt Nam được cho là sẽ mang lại hiệu quả kinh tế cao, nhất là khi cá tra, basa đang dần trở nên bão hòa. <br>

For the first 10 months of the year, total export value has surpassed $1.8 billion, up 9% year-on-year. This growth demonstrates clear positive momentum for the pangasius industry, despite continued declines in certain markets.
In recent days, the Central provinces of Vietnam have been suffering from historic flooding, with prolonged heavy rains, landslides, flash floods, and deep inundation causing extremely serious impacts on tens of thousands of households, as well as many VASEP member exporters located in the region. With the spirit of mutual support and solidarity, and in order to promptly assist residents and member exporters in the affected areas to stabilize their lives and restore production activities, VASEP calls on all seafood exporters, organizations, and individuals to extend supports to the people and member exporters in the flood-hit areas. We urge timely and practical material and spiritual contributions to help member exporters and local communities in the severely affected provinces overcome this difficult period.

This is one of the highest monthly revenues since the beginning of the year, reflecting solid demand in major markets and faster shipment schedules by exporters. From January to October, shrimp export value reached USD 3.9 billion, up 22% compared to the same period in 2024.

The overall trend for the pangasius industry remains positive, with total exports in the first nine months of 2025 reaching nearly USD 1.6 billion, an increase of 9% year-on-year.
