(vasep.com.vn)In 2014, Ca Mau city set the target of expanding industrial shrimp farming area of 1,100 hectares. So far this year, local farmers have stocked shrimp on the area of over 812 hectares, completing 73 percent of its plan.

(vasep.com.vn) In the first two months of 2014, Ca Mau, a southernmost province of Vietnam, fetched US$185.46 million from its exports, equal to 15.56 percent of its plan, and up 97.53 percent year on year, according to the provincial Department of Industry and Trade.

(vasep.com.vn) Ca Mau province reported a fishery production of 80,000 MT so far, up 12 percent against the same time of 2013, according to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Aquaculture output was 50,000 MT (+8 percent) and wild catch was 30,000 MT. Seafood exports reached nearly US$200 million.

(vasep.com.vn) In 2014, Mekong Delta provinces target to raise shrimp export turnover, mainly black tiger shrimp, to US$2.55 billion, US$50 million higher than that of last year. Ca Mau province may take the lead in shrimp exports with a projected revenue of US$1.1 billion in 2014.

(vasep.com.vn) To meet increasing demand of global consumers for sustainable and environmentally friendly seafood products, fish producers in the world are complying with a wide range of certification standards such as ASC, MSC, GlobalGAP, BAP. However, too many standards are causing confusions for not only fish producers and exporters but also consumers in the international markets. Different certificates lead to hiking production costs and fish prices for fish farmers and producers.

The southern province of Tra Vinh earned nearly US$57.5 million from exports in the first two months of this year, up 81.5 per cent year-on-year.

(vasep.com.vn) Minh Phu Seafood Group Corporation (Minh Phu Seafood Corp – HOSE code: MPC) has recently issued its business plan in 2014. This year, the company targets to reach VND11,715 billion of net turnover and VND421.74 billion of post-tax profit. These figures are up 5.74 percent and 43.53 percent compared to those in 2013.

(vasep.com.vn) Nam Can district based in Ca Mau province has 25,600 hectares of aquaculture land in which over 105 hectares are used for industrial shrimp farming and nearly 420 hectares are used for innovated extensive shrimp farming. The rest is for traditional extensive shrimp farming, forest-shrimp farming and co-cultivating shrimp with other aquatic species.

(vasep.com.vn) In 2013, Vietnam’s whiteleg shrimp exports hit US$1.58 billion, up 113 percent year on year and making up 50.7 percent of the country’s total shrimp exports which surpassed black tiger shrimp sales with US$1.33 billion, up only 6.3 percent and occupying 42.7 percent of total shrimp sales. In the first month of 2014, the trend was continued.

(vasep.com.vn) Fisheries industry, including aquaculture sector, particularly shrimp farming plays an important part in remaining Ca Mau province's economic growth. The province has over 296,000 hectares of aquaculture land including 266,000 hectares of shrimp farming. Annually, the local aquaculture production obtains 280,000 MT including 130,000 MT of shrimp.
