(vasep.com.vn) So far this year, farmers in Bac Lieu province have stocked nearly 1,500 hectares of whiteleg shrimp under intensive and semi-intensive models. Local shrimp farming area reported a sharp increase compared to the same period of last year thanks to higher shrimp price and demand as well as short farming time.

(vasep.com.vn) In recent time, IntraFish, an international website on seafood has published some articles about agar injection to shrimp by Vietnam packers to raise its weight. One-sided criticisms in articles may lead to misleading opinions of shrimp quality, production and trade by Vietnam.

(vasep.com.vn) Since May 18th 2012, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan has tested Ethoxyquin residue -an anti-oxidant substance popularly used in preserving food as apples, chilies, fruits, animal feed and aquatic feed, on 30 percent of shrimp consignments originated from Vietnam with maximum residue limits (MRLs) of 0.01 ppm.
