Tra Vinh: Up in shrimp output thanks to vannamei
(vasep.com.vn) So far this year, farmers in Tra Vinh province have shifted to rear whiteleg shrimp, leading to sharp increase of 7 thousand MT in vannamei production and black tiger shrimp output also rose 2 thousand MT. However, pangasius output reduced 7 thousand MT.
Through October 2013, the province stocked 2.02 billion of black tiger shrimp seed on the area of 25,898 hectares and 898 million of whiteleg shrimp seed on the area of 2,238 hectares.
In October 2013, aquaculture production of the locality was estimated to hit 10.1 thousand MT, up 33.75 percent year-on-year with 4.6 thousand MT of pangasius, down 19.55 percent and 4.4 thousand MT of shrimp, showing three-fold increase. Through October 2013, aquaculture output reached about 76.2 thousand MT, up 17.81 percent year-on-year. Pangasius yield was up 2.65 percent to gain 48.4 thousand MT and shrimp yield rose 85.78 percent to 19.4 thousand MT.
