Vietnam-the largest trading partner of Russia in ASEAN

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to Russian figures, by 2015, Vietnam has become the largest trading partner of Russia among the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The past five years, trade turnover between Russia and Vietnam grew at an average rate of 20% per year. Russia is currently one of the 10 international largest economic and trading partners for Vietnam in Europe, accounting for 10% of the trade turnover of Vietnam to the European countries. According to Russian statistics, the two-way trade between Russia and Vietnam in 2015 rose 4% compared with that of last year.

In the opposite side, Vietnam in 2015 was ranked the 28th on the list of the international trading partners of Russia and became the largest trading partner of Russia in ASEAN.

As far as the results statistics of Russia in 2015, Russia-Vietnam trade increased to US$3.9 billion in 2015. Russia's exports to Vietnam increased by 27% with US$1.8 billion, and Vietnam’s exports to Russia reached more than US$2 billion. Trade between the two sides recovered and returned to the levels of 2013. In the last three years, Vietnam has been the largest trading partner of Russia in ASEAN. Vietnam was ranked the first in 2013, one of the three leading countries in 2014 and returned to the first rank again in 2015 beyond Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Vietnam mainly exported to Russia the traditional items such as rice, vegetables, mobile phones, home appliances, textiles and footwear, fishery products. The main items which Russia exports to Vietnam include industrial machinery, equipments and food products. Exports of these items tend to rise sharply. The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Vietnam and Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) signed in May 2015 will offer many advantages for the trade between Vietnam and Russia.

Mr. Pham Quang Niem, Vietnam Trade Representative in Russia said that: "when the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and Eurasian Economic Union is in force, items like seafood, garments, footwear and furniture which are also the main advantages of Vietnam will enjoy benefit”.

In general, FTA between Vietnam and Vietnam and Eurasian Economic Union will help to boost the bilateral trade to reach US$10 billion by 2020.

Vietnam pangasius in China: Stable demand, intensifying competition

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first 10 months of 2025, Vietnam’s pangasius export value to China (including Mainland China and Hong Kong) reached $483 million, up 1% compared to the same period in 2024. October alone posted $73 million, a strong 19% increase year-on-year. The Chinese market currently accounts for nearly 27% of Vietnam’s total pangasius export value.

Vietnam’s lobster exports set for another strong surge in 2025

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to data from Vietnam Customs, the country’s lobster exports posted another strong month in October 2025, reaching $93 million - a 75% increase from the same month in 2024. This performance extends the sector’s impressive growth streak from earlier in the year, pushing cumulative exports for the first 10 months to $712 million, up an extraordinary 135% year-over-year. Within the product mix, green lobster remained the dominant driver, accounting for 98% of total export value, with $700 million recorded in the first 10 months - a 141% jump year-on-year. In contrast, exports of spiny lobster and other lobster varieties declined slightly by 22% and 1%, respectively, indicating that market demand is becoming increasingly concentrated on the most sought-after product line.

Da Nang city takes strong action against IUU fishing

Patrols, monitoring of marine fishing activities, and handling of violations have been prioritized by competent forces, significantly reducing nearshore fishing infringements.

Vietnam’s tuna exports to Israel drop nearly 50% in the first 9 months of 2025

This is a steep and prolonged decline for many consecutive months, reflecting changes in import demand as well as shifts in the supply structure of this market.
