Market: During week 14, the US market of shrimp and prawn changed slightly.
With better weather conditions, the consumer started to eat out; consumption has increased because of national festivities and higher temperatures.
However, prices are very high. Unofficially, with teh drop of this market, ultramarine producers will improbé prices; without the Japanese market which turned to other origins, Thailand will reduce the selling pressure. India and Indonesia are very worried about the dramatic drop.
As inventories are significant, US importers are not insisting before producers and they just listen to their offers.
Paradoxically, imports increased slightly in February 2014, compared with February 2013. Shrimp HLSOs were up 3.7% in volume. In the first two months, this product dropped by 1.2% from that of the same period in 2013.
The value added products tend to improve and leave the stagnancy they had fallen into.
