Spain: Stability in shrimp price

On the wholesale market of Mercamadrid, during week 16, supplies of all presentations of prawn and shrimp declined. Total drops registered 105 tonnes, compared with the previous week. The most significant drops were reported by frozen small and medium prawn.

Prices: Prices of frozen shrimp at first sales remained stable in the case of Argentine shrimp, Penaeus monodon andPenaeus vannamei.

On Mercabarna, during week 15, prices of frozen shrimp HLSO declined due to a rise in supplies and so did those of frozen Tunisian shrimp because of a lower demand. The rest of prawn and shrimp products have increased. The most important variation was the drop in shrimp HLSO, by EUR 0.76/kg.

On Mercamadrid, during week 16, prices of remained stable, compared with the previous week.

Markets

European Union: In January 2014, the volume of imports of Penaus spp were very similar to those of the same month in 2013. Spain was the main importer of the species and registered the highest rise with 900 tonnes.

The situation of exports was not the same: they dropped by 4,700 tonnes compared with the same month in 2013. France and Portugal were the main exporters.
