Exports: According to Thai Customs, in March 2014, total exports of shrimp (except those of fresh water), in all products, reached 9,667.4 tonnes, worth over USD 127.3 million FOB, corrected currency.
These figures are up 5% in volume and 9% in FOB Value on those reported in the previous month.
The average price of exports in March 2014 was USD 13.17/kg FOB.
In January-March 2014, total exports of shrimp (except those of fresh water), in all products, reached 28,598.4 tonnes, worth almost USD 369.3 million FOB, corrected currency.
In January-March 2014, South Korea, Japan and the US were the main destinations of shrimp exports.
Imports: Although Thailand is one of the biggest producers of shrimp in the world, it imports some volumes to process and re-export, apart from the self-imports. It also imports canned product it does not produce, for domestic consumption.
According to Thai Customs, in March 2014, total imports of shrimp (except those of fresh water), in all products, reached 1,673.9 tonnes, worth almost USD 15.9 million, corrected currency.
These figures are up 2% in volume and 22% in value on imports of the previous month.
The average price of imports in March 2014 was USD 9.52/kg CIF.
In January-March 2014, total imports of shrimp (except those of fresh water), in all products, reached 4,661.4 tonnes, worth almost USD 41.13 million CIF, corrected currency.
During January-March 2014 the main suppliers of shrimp were China, Ecuador, Argentina and Vietnam, apart from the self-imports from Thailand.
In March 2014 the commercial balance was positive at USD 111.4 million and so was it during the first three months with USD 328.2 million.
