(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnam’s cephalopod exports showed the continuous increase from the beginning of this year. Through Aug 2017, Vietnam’s cephalopod sales totaled US$402 million, up 55% over the same period last year. Exports in Sep 2017 to top 9 major importing markets recorded the positive growth over the same period in 2016. Supplies increased thanks to a rise in capture output and import volume, along with the flexibility of exporters in adjusting the structure of products and markets, which had facilitated exports of cephalopod in the first 8 months of the year.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first half of this year, Vietnam’s cephalopod shipments to China witnessed the highest growth rate among major importing markets of Vietnam. In July 2017, Vietnam’s cephalopod exports to the market valued at US$6.5 million, a remarkable increase of 226% compared to July 2016. The figure in the first 7 months of this year totaled over US$21 million, up 140% over the same period in 2016.

Total seafood output from both fishing and aquaculture in the central province of Thua Thien–Hue reached 40,166 tonnes in January-September, up 15.6 percent, including 28,777 tonnes of wild catch, up 19.7 percent.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) On Sep 11th 2017, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam – Mr. Nguyen Xuan Cuong, Deputy Minister of MARD– Mr. Vu Van Tam and leaders of MARD, and leaders of Directorate of Fisheries (D-Fish) had a meeting with Ambassador Bruno Angelet, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam and EU Trade Counselors in Vietnam with an aim to discussing and sharing information on the implementation of EU’s recommendations on combating IUU fishing in Vietnam.

Vietnam’s total output of caught fish in the first eight months of 2017 reached nearly 2.3 million tonnes, up 3.4 percent year-on-year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

During a recent meeting in Thailand, the prime ministers of Thailand and Vietnam reaffirmed their commitment to suppressing illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) - Mr. Vu Van Tam- and representatives from Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Industry and Trade as well as representatives from trade affairs and business associations from countries such as Thailand, India, and Malaysia ... and the media.

As part of the outstanding activities at VIETFISH 2017, VASEP is planning to hold 7 major conferences related to key fisheries activities, presented by domestic and international speakers.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) This year, Australia increased imports of processed cephalopod (HS code 16), while reduced those of fresh/chilled/frozen items.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnam currently stayed as the 13th largest supplier of cephalopod to the U.S. In the first four months of 2017, Vietnam's cephalopod exports to the market hit US$1.6 million, up 0.5%, but the export volume touched 174 MT, down 22 % year on year.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first 4 months of this year, imports of cephalopod into Japan from most countries decreased compared to the same period. In the period, imports from China, Peru, South Korea and Spain into the market recorded the positive growth of 84%, 1,934%, 3,504% and 1,187% respectively compared to the same period in 2016. Meanwhile, the import volume from other countries reported the fall.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In Jan - Apr 2017, Vietnam cephalopod exports reported a y-o-y growth of 39.3% to reach over US$156 million. Vietnam cephalopod exports to 4 largest importing markets showed the increase: South Korea (+32.8) Japan (+37.2) EU (+88.7) ASEAN (+23.9). Importing markets and main products are as follows:

Lenger Seafoods Vietnam shipped its first container of ngao oyster grown in northern Nam Dinh province to Italy on June 10, ushering in a new opportunity for local breeders.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first quarter of 2017, Vietnam’s cephalopod exports to the EU reached US$20.04 million, up 79.8% over the same period in 2016. Italy was the leading importer in the bloc with the value of US$11.8 million, up 72.5%; followed by France with US$2.1 million, up 339.3% and the Netherlands with US$1.2 million, up 234% year on year. The EU ranked the 3rd in top largest buyers of Vietnam cephalopod, picking up 19%, up from 14% in QI/2016.
