Jan-Apr 2017: Vietnam cephalopod exports to Japan went up 37%

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first 4 months of this year, imports of cephalopod into Japan from most countries decreased compared to the same period. In the period, imports from China, Peru, South Korea and Spain into the market recorded the positive growth of 84%, 1,934%, 3,504% and 1,187% respectively compared to the same period in 2016. Meanwhile, the import volume from other countries reported the fall.

In the period, Vietnam’s cephalopod exports to Japan touched US$38 million, up 37% year on year thanks to a rise in the export price. Currently, Vietnam mainly exports fresh/live/frozen squid to the market, accounting for 52% of Vietnam’ total cephalopod exports; followed by processed octopus with 21%; live/fresh/frozen/dried octopus with 19%; other processed squid with 8%.
