(vasep.com.vn) Maintaining its proportion of over 30% in surimi exports from Vietnam, South Korea has been Vietnam's biggest market for this item and potentials are still seen.

Vietnam surimi exports to South Korea in the first 4 months of the year reached US$ 27.15 million, up 8.7% from the same period in 2014. Exports to South Korea accounted for 31.6% of total exports.

Statistics from the International Trade Centre (ITC) shows that in the first quarter of 2015, South Korea imported surimi from 10 countries, 5 of which are ASEAN countries. Total surimi import value of this market was US$ 42.4 million, reporting an increase of 12.8%. Imports from ASEAN countries accounted for 69% of South Korea's total surimi imports. Vietnam, the biggest surimi exporter to South Korea was the origin for nearly half of surimi imported into this market.

Surimi imports from Vietnam nearly tripled of those from China, the second biggest supplier.

Compared with the 22% growth recorded in January, the pace of increase in February slowed somewhat, reflecting seasonal factors as the Lunar New Year holiday partially disrupted processing and shipment activities. Nevertheless, the nearly 20% growth in the first two months indicates that shrimp orders from Vietnam are maintaining a more positive trend than in the same period last year.
