Can Tho's seafood exports reach over US$ 387 million

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Can Tho's seafood export output in the past 9 months is estimated at 118,000 tons with a turnover of over US$ 387 million. Many aquaculture areas of Can Tho have VietGAP standards to meet the requirements for export, increasing the value of aquaculture products in the area.

According to the Department of Fisheries of Can Tho City, the city's aquaculture area in the past 9 months was over 7,900 hectares, an increase over the same period last year. The harvested area was over 3,100 hectares with over 162,000 tons of output, equal to 98% over the same period in 2023. Currently, the selling price of raw pangasius ranges from 26,500 - 27,500 VND/kg, an increase of 500 - 1,000 VND/kg, the average price is 26,000 - 27,000 VND/kg.

For the aquaculture areas which have VietGAP and BAP + ASC standards (A set of assess output ment standards applied to the aquaculture industry to help manage responsible and effective aquaculture) in Can Tho is 193 hectares.

Currently, the city has 77 facilities for producing and raising aquatic breeds of all kinds, including 15 facilities for producing shrimp breeds and 62 facilities for producing and raising fish breeds.

For pangasius breeds, the area is more than 260 hectares, with an output of over 2,000 tons. The price of pangasius fry ranges from 29,000 - 33,000 VND/kg, an increase of about 1,000 VND/kg compared to the same period last year. In the past 9 months, Can Tho's seafood export output is estimated at 118,000 tons, with a turnover of over 387 million USD, an increase of 6.52%.

This output achieved 99.59% of the set target and marked a 4.57% increase compared to the same period last year. To date, the province has converted 3,633 hectares to high-tech aquaculture out of the 4,000-hectare goal, representing 90.82% progress towards the 2021-2025 phase plan. This sector yields an average productivity of 60-70 tons per hectare, with a total output reaching 221,282 tons.
