In the first nine months of 2024, the area dedicated to tiger shrimp farming is estimated at 23,361 hectares, representing a decrease of 8.68% compared to the same period last year. This decline is primarily due to a shift from extensive tiger shrimp farming to intensive vannamei shrimp farming. The harvested output of tiger shrimp during this period is estimated at 4,330 tons, reflecting a 7.39% increase compared to last year.
Conversely, the area for vannamei shrimp farming has increased to an estimated 12,890 hectares, up by 3.12%. Favorable weather conditions this year, combined with the positive development of intensive and super-intensive vannamei shrimp farming models utilizing high technology, have contributed to improved economic efficiency. Additionally, shrimp prices have started to rise slightly after a prolonged period of low prices, encouraging farmers to enhance their farming activities. The harvested output of vannamei shrimp in the first nine months of 2024 is estimated at 119,096 tons, an increase of 11.45% compared to the same period last year. However, in the first nine months of 2024, the province experienced a total of 499.66 hectares of intensive and semi-intensive shrimp farming impacted mainly by common shrimp diseases, such as white spot syndrome and acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease, with 499.36 hectares dedicated to vannamei shrimp and 0.3 hectares to tiger shrimp.
