According to statistics of Vietnam Customs, exports of tuna products to Canada in the first 9 months of 2021 increased, except for fresh and frozen tuna with HS code 03 (excluding HS code 0304). Export of tuna products in the form of loins, fillets, tuna meat, cut into pieces, HS code 0304 still accounted for the highest proportion of nearly 59%, reaching nearly 15 million USD, up 32% over the same period.
The second place is canned tuna products, accounting for 35%, reaching nearly 9 million USD, up 16% over the same period. Notably, in the first 3 months of the year, the export of other processed tuna products increased by 246%.
According to ITC, in the first eight months of this year, Canada imported tuna from 48 countries around the world, of which Vietnam is the second largest tuna supplier after Thailand (by volume).
According to businesses, with the tariff preferences as agreed in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), it continues to create competitive advantages for Vietnam's tuna products.
By the end of September 2021, there are 29 Vietnamese enterprises exporting tuna to Canada. In which, Yueh Chyang Canned Food, FOODTECH and Thinh Hung Co., Ltd are the 3 largest tuna exporters to this market, accounting for 53% of the total export value.

This surge is attributed to the rise in pangasius material prices within the Mekong Delta, which has incentivized aquaculture farmers to expand their stocking activities. Concurrently, this price increase has facilitated processing enterprises to intensify procurement efforts to meet export demands during the early part of the year.

This dynamic is clearly illustrated through shifts in export turnover and the proportional contribution to the national pangasius export volume among the Top 5 enterprises.
