Spain- a good market for Vietnam cephalopod

(vasep.com.vn) EU has been a big exporter of Vietnam. With a strong growth at 107% year-on-year, Spain is the third biggest market for cephalopod from Vietnam.

As reported, accumulated value of Vietnam cephalopod exports to Spain from January to November 2014 is US$ 4.8 million.

It is noted that from 2013, cephalopod exports from Vietnam to Spain was affected by economic crisis. After a long period from 2013 lasting till QI/2014, cephalopod exports to Spain showed a staggering increase at 125-493% up year on year while Italian market cooled down from the overheating growth in 2013.

Latest statistics of the ITC showed that in the first 9 months of 2014, despite fierce competitions, Vietnam ranked 15th in the top cephalopod suppliers for Spain.

In 2014, major of cephalopod imports of Spain, accounting for around 50-65%, was squid frozen, dried, salted or in brine (HS code 030749). This was followed by frozen octopus (HS code 030759)  with 27-40% in the total import volume. Meanwhile, processed cephalopod (HS code 160554-55) accounted for less than 3%.

Morocco and The Falkland Islands are two major origins for most Spanish cephalopod imports, occupying 50-73% of the total import value. Morocco, though have been exporting to Spain for many years, presented reduction, resulting from large supplies from Asia countries such as China, India and Vietnam.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) The year 2025 marked a pivotal milestone for Vietnam’s seafood industry in its restructuring process toward sustainability, transparency, and higher value creation, amid continued uncertainties in the global economic and trade environment. Prolonged inflation in major economies, the rising trend of trade protectionism, and increasingly stringent requirements related to environmental standards, traceability, and social responsibility have posed significant challenges to seafood production and exports. Pangasius exports in 2025 exceed USD 2 billion, with strong growth in multiple markets

This result indicates that pangasius exports maintained their growth momentum despite significant volatility in the global market environment. In December 2025, pangasius export value reached USD 200 million, up 10% compared to December 2024. This solid performance in the final month of the year reflects increased import demand for consumption and inventory replenishment in key markets.

Vietnam’s tuna exports to Spain shift sharply toward processed segments

Ca Mau leads the nation in shrimp output
