China and Hong Kong remain the largest importers of Vietnamese crabs and other crustaceans, accounting for 43% of the total export value. The export value to this market is skyrocketing at a 3-4 digit growth rate compared to the same period and maintaining consecutive monthly growth. In June 2024 alone, exports of crabs and other crustaceans to this market increased nearly 20-fold year-on-year, reaching almost $13 million. Cumulatively, in the first 6 months of the year, exports to this market nearly reached $54 million, up 623%.
In contrast, exports to Japan have been on a continuous declining trend for the past 3 months. The export value of crabs and other crustaceans in Japan in June 2024 decreased by 25% year-on-year, reaching $6 million. Cumulatively, it decreases slightly by 0.3%, reaching $35 million in the first 6 months.
Exports to the US and Canada are also growing positively, with an increase of 30% and 44% respectively.
On the other hand, the export value of crabs to the EU in the first half of the year decreased by 46% compared to the same period. “Yellow card” by the EU continued impacting marine product exports from Vietnam to this market.

This surge is attributed to the rise in pangasius material prices within the Mekong Delta, which has incentivized aquaculture farmers to expand their stocking activities. Concurrently, this price increase has facilitated processing enterprises to intensify procurement efforts to meet export demands during the early part of the year.

This dynamic is clearly illustrated through shifts in export turnover and the proportional contribution to the national pangasius export volume among the Top 5 enterprises.
