Fishery production in the first nine months of 2024 was stable thanks to favorable weather and fishing grounds. However, in the third quarter, fishing activities faced difficulties due to the influence of tropical depressions in the East Sea. The estimated monthly fishery production reached 21,661 tons, up 0.62% compared to the same period last year; cumulatively, the first nine months of 2024 reached an estimated 178,155.3 tons, an increase of 1.24% compared to the same period last year. Of which, offshore fishing reached an estimated 177,743 tons, an increase of 1.25%. Inland fishery exploitation decreased due to the decreasing water surface area, and the types of aquatic products exploited in rivers, streams, lakes, and reservoirs are mainly catfish, snakehead fish, shrimp and crab.
Regarding the protection of fishery resources, in the first nine months of 2024, the whole province of Bình Thuận continued to manage and prevent high-risk vessels from violating foreign waters. Up to now, no fishing vessels or fishermen in the province have violated the regulations against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. The fishing vessel monitoring system continues to be promoted to monitor and prevent fishing vessels from crossing the border and violating foreign waters.
In the coming time, the province's fisheries sector will significantly reduce the number of coastal fishing vessels, contributing to solving the problem of shifting occupations from coastal fishing to more sustainable offshore aquaculture.
