Marine production and exploitation promoted

(vasep.com.vn) On March 1st 2013, the Prime Minister has issued the Decision No. 375/QĐ-TTg to approve the project on reorganization of production in marine exploitation.

Accordingly, by 2020, the sector strives to complete reorganization in marine exploitation to increase fishing capacity and fishermen’s income and develop fishing sector efficiently and sustainably.

The project’s targets will be implemented in two phases:

a) From 2013 to 2015

- About 25 – 30 percent of fishing vessels to operate under cooperatives. In which, 65 – 70 percent of offshore fishing vessels will go fishing in waters where logistical services are available.

- The number of trawl net will drop to less than 15 percent of total fishing vessels

- To monitor and manage 80 percent of fishing vessels operating at coastal areas;

- All fishing boats will be provided with fishing ground forecast newsletters every 30 days.

- Post-harvest loss will be dropped to less than 15 percent. Traceability system from exploitation, storage, processing and consumption will be applied to tuna fishing boats.

- The number of fishing boat accidents due to natural disasters and risks at sea will drop by under 50 percent against 2011.

b) From 2016 to 2020

- About 40 percent of fishing boats will operate under cooperatives. In which 90 – 100 percent of offshore fishing boats will operate in waters where logistical services are available.

- To observe operation of all offshore fishing boats.

- All offshore fishing boats will be provided with fishing ground forecast newsletters every 7 – 15 days.

- Post-harvest loss will be dropped to less than 10 percent. Traceability system will be applied to fishing boats working with high value species.

- The number of fishing boat accidents will drop by 15 percent compared to 2011.

The decision took into effect since the date of signing.
