Ninh Thuan to become aquatic seed producing hub

(vasep.com.vn) Ninh Thuan province is focusing on offshore fishing activities in a modern and sustainable way with an aim to create a radical change in local fish catch volume. The fish aquaculture sector will be also developed though enhancing intensive farming activities and ensuring food safety and ecological balance.

Accordingly, Ninh Thuan will boost the provincial economic growth by strengthening distant marine fish catch in accordance with requirements on resources and environment protection.

It is important to upgrade the capacity of deep-sea fisheries management and reorganize logistics services in the fishery sector as well. In aquaculture, the provice invests in production of whiteleg shrimp, black tiger shrimp, lobsters and fish seeds and ensures a comprehensive development in infrastructures in order to reduce risks in the production chain.

Ninh Thuan strives to become the hub for aquatic seed production to provide 25 – 30 percent of seeds in the nationwide; 50 – 60 percent of which is high quality seeds.

To reach the target, the Mekong Delta-based province has set up a planning to build zones for bracket water, salt, marine fish and seeds production. It also considers black tiger shrimp, whiteleg shrimp and cottonii as the key aquatic species for further production by 2020.

Through October 2013, Ninh Thuan caught 59 thousand MT of marine fish, completing 91 percent of the yearly plan. Commercial shrimp was 6,390 MT, up 26 percent from the same period of 2012. Aquatic seeds were 17 billion fries.
