Better salary for workers in Ca Mau seafood sector

(vasep.com.vn) After difficulties in the first half of 2013, salary for workers in Ca Mau-based seafood processing plants have improved significantly in the third quarter of the year.

Currently, workers in seafood sector have an average salary of VND3.5 million per month, increasing by VND1 million against that in early 2013. There have been 1,000 workers in the industry receiving more than VND9 million per month.

The rise in worker salary is because many Vietnam seafood processors have overcome difficulties when importing markets rebounded and they received doubled orders from foreign buyers. Some other companies found appropriate measures in time to make business profit gradually and get out of the bottom line.

“This is a tough challenge for the whole seafood industry during the global economic downturn. Through difficulties, Minh Phu Seafood Corp has withdrawn good experiences to be more dynamic and upgrade an efficient management of the company’s production chain successfully,” Le Van Quang, General Director of Minh Phu Seafood Corp shared.

Ca Mau province has 35 seafood processing plants using nearly 25,000 labours. The majority of them are in shrimp sector. Due to economic troubles, 6,000 workers were laid off in 2012 and more 2,000 lost jobs in the first half of 2013. The situation was better as 80 percent of laid-off workers had job back. Many local companies are offering more 3,000 jobs in processing plants.

Currently, most export companies are accelerating production to complete contracts with foreign buyers to reach their yearly business targets as well as help Ca Mau’s 2013-export value exceed US$1 billion.
