Main export products had 2-digit growths, ranging from 13% to 42%, except for tuna, which was down 12.5% and slight increase in pangasius exports. Significant figures are shown in shrimp exports with the highest export growth rate of 42%, the highest prercentage of 50.6% in total exports, reaching US$ 2.9 billion worth. Whiteleg shrimp dominated the shrimp exports with 58%, reaching the value of US$ 1.7 billion, up 75% as production and imports of raw materials increased, while the world market experienced supply shortage due to EMS.
Pangasius exports recovered, growing 6.6% in QIII though this is not sufficient to offset the decline from the gloomy import markets since the beginning of the year. Total exports in 9 months reached US$ 1.3 billion, 0.3% higher over the same period last year.
Import demand from major markets declined further, making the total tuna exports at US$ 363 million, down by 12.5%.
After 2 successive years of decline, cephalopod exports recovered markedly thanks to rising demand from Korea, Italy, Spain, France, Germany and China.
From January to September 2014, Vietnam sent seafood to 166 markets around the world, experiencing positive growth from 15% to 45%.
Good opportunities were given to boast exports this year as shrimp production increased while demand and export prices were higher. However, firms also had to face technical and duty bariers from importing market, which have been affecting seafood export results.

Instead of focusing solely on farming and processing, the pangasius value chain is increasingly utilizing by-products and waste streams to generate added value.

In 2025, scallop export value reached nearly USD 66 million, up 49% from USD 44 million in 2024. This upward momentum has continued and accelerated into early 2026, with exports totaling USD 18.1 million in the first two months alone—an increase of 166% year-on-year. This represents an exceptionally high growth rate, reflecting the rapid expansion of a relatively new product segment within Vietnam’s mollusk export portfolio.

This result indicates a positive start for the sector, reflecting early signs of demand recovery in multiple markets from the beginning of the year.

In February alone, export value reached USD 8.4 million, up 148% year-on-year. Cumulatively, in the first two months of 2026, total tilapia export turnover hit USD 23 million, soaring 242% compared to the same period in 2025.

Issues such as filth, and signs of decomposition/spoilage are often detected through sensory evaluation methods and remain common reasons for seafood import alerts, detentions, or shipment rejections.
