Quang Ninh: Significant aquaculture development in 2009

Freshwater fish farming in Quang Ninh developed remarkably in the districts of Dong Trieu, Yen Hung, Uong Bi, Hai Ha, Dam Ha, Tien Yen, and Hoanh Bo. Currently, in the province there are 3,175ha of water surface used for freshwater fish farming, including 1,500ha transformed from low-efficient rice cultivating area into aquaculture. Freshwater fish output last year amounted to 5,200MT.

In 2009, nearly 500 households farmed Otter snout clams in an area of more than 300ha, concentrating in the districts of Van Don, Hai Ha, Cam Pha and Ha Long. In Van Don alone, more than 1,000MT of Otter snout clams have been harvested.

The farmers use nearly 500ha of sea water for oyster farming in cage and raft, including 650 cages concentrating in Van Don district, and some other in Ha Long city, and Cam Pha townlet, with an output of around 2,500-3,500kg of oyster per raft.

Beside, Quang Ninh province also has 3,490ha used for farming mollusks such as clam, scallop, and Ben Tre clam with an output of 7,335MT. The production of other farmed mollusk species included 5,565MT of abalone, sea cucumber, sea urchin and snails.

The farming of many high value marine fish such as grouper, yellow sea bream, perch, and black king fish, etc. developed widely in Quang Ninh. In 2009, marine fish farming area occupied more than 1,000ha of water surface in the gulf with 7,375 cages, providing an output of 2,885MT.

Soc Trang Province: Promoting sustainable, concentrated, and clean brackish water shrimp farming

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Currently, Soc Trang province plans to expand its shrimp farming area from over 50,000 hectares to 57,000 hectares by 2025, aiming for a production of 233,800 tons and maintaining a $1 billion export value. The project will establish 45 climate-resilient shrimp farming models and ensure all farms meet aquaculture standards for traceability.

Export surimi with many challenges

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In July 2024, Vietnam's fish cake and surimi exports declined. The export value reached just over 24 million USD, down 3% over the same period. In the first 7 months of 2024, the cumulative export of this product group reached 152 million USD, down 13%.

Dong Thap: Developing the pangasius industry towards increasing value-added and sustainable growth

In the first seven months of 2024, the estimated aquaculture area reached 4,778 hectares, with a harvest yield of 307,336 tons. Of this, the intensive pangasius farming area covered 2,042 hectares, with a harvest of 252,670 tons.

Vietnam's pangasius exports to the EU show positive signs

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to Vietnam Customs, in the first half of August 2024, Vietnam's pangasius exports to the EU reached nearly 8 million USD, up 57% over the same period. Cumulative pangasius exports to this market as of August 15, 2024, reached 107 million USD, up 0.5% over the same period last year.
