For the year to date, the value of seafood exports has totalled NOK 17.8 billion (EUR 2.3 billion), an increase of NOK 806 million (EUR 105.8 million) or 5 per cent from the same period last year.
Norwegian salmon exports set new record
The value of salmon exports in April totalled NOK 3 billion (EUR 393.7 million), an increase of NOK 833 million (EUR 109.3 million) or 38 per cent compared to April last year and marking a new record for the month of April.
This year to date, the value of salmon exports has totalled NOK 11.1 billion (EUR 1.5 billion). This is an increase of NOK 2.3 billion (EUR 301.8 million) or 25 per cent compared to the same period last year and is attributable to higher export prices.
The average price for fresh whole salmon in April was NOK 42.01 (EUR 5.51) per kg, compared to NOK 29.58 (EUR 3.88) per kg in April 2012. France and Poland are the two biggest markets for salmon.
In April, exports of fjord trout were up in value by NOK 53 million (EUR 6.96 million) to a total of NOK 194 million (EUR 25.5 million). This year to date, the value of exports of fjord trout has totalled NOK 675 million (EUR 88.6 million), an increase of NOK 131 million (EUR 17.2 million) compared to the same period in 2012. The biggest markets for fjord trout are Russia and Belarus.
Herring and mackerel exports down
In April, exports of herring and mackerel were down in value by NOK 50 million (EUR 6.6 million) to a total of NOK 149 million (EUR 19.6 million). For the year to date, the value of exports of herring has totalled NOK 958 million (EUR 125.7 million), a decline of NOK 793 million (EUR 104.1 million) compared to the same period last year. Russia and Germany are the biggest markets for herring.
Mackerel exports fell in value in April by NOK 39 million (EUR 5.1 million) to a total of NOK 57 million (EUR 7.5 million). This year to date, mackerel exports from Norway have been down in value by NOK 344 million (EUR 45 million) to a total of NOK 532 million (EUR 69.8 million). Ukraine and China are the biggest markets for mackerel.
Clipfish exports up in value
Exports of clipfish increased in value in April by NOK 33 million (EUR 4.3 million) to a total of NOK 179 million (EUR 23.5 million). This figure breaks down into NOK 103 million (EUR 13.5 million) for cod and NOK 63 million (EUR 8.3 million) for saithe, with the remainder accounted for by ling, tusk and other groundfish.
The value of exports of salted fish including fillets in April was on a par with April 2012 and totalled NOK 118 million (EUR 15.5 million), of which NOK 116 million (EUR 15.2 million) was accounted for by cod exports.
Growth in exports of fresh and frozen Norwegian cod
Exports of fresh cod including fillets from fishery in April increased in value by NOK 73 million (EUR 9.6 million) to a total of NOK 195 million (EUR 26 million). Exports of frozen cod including fillets also increased in value in April, by NOK 3 million (EUR 393,662) to a total of NOK 110 million (EUR 14.4 million).

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) On March 10, 2026, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee issued Decision No. 1377/QD-UBND approving the Aquatic Animal Disease Prevention and Control Plan for the 2026–2030 period. The decision takes effect from the date of signing and replaces previous plans for the 2021–2030 period that had been issued prior to the administrative merger in Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City.

As the supply structure in this market is rapidly shifting, Vietnamese tuna is facing both opportunities to expand market share and increasing competitive pressure from Thailand, Colombia, and China.
(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vinh Long Province is stepping up efforts to develop brackish water shrimp farming in a sustainable direction, identifying it as a key sector in its agricultural structure. In 2026, the province aims to reach around 71,300 hectares of shrimp farming, with an output of over 314,000 tons.
(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Ha Tinh Province is strengthening control over shrimp seed quality to minimize risks for the 2026 spring–summer farming season.
(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In February 2026, Vietnam’s pangasius exports reached USD 119 million, down slightly 5% year-on-year. However, thanks to strong performance in January, cumulative exports in the first two months of the year still reached USD 331 million, up 28% compared to the same period in 2025. Export activity slowed somewhat in February due to seasonal factors, particularly the Lunar New Year holiday, which disrupted production and shipments at many seafood processing enterprises.
(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Da Nang is accelerating the development of high-tech shrimp farming toward intensive production, disease control, and improved efficiency. Many shrimp farms have invested in automated environmental monitoring systems, continuously tracking indicators such as pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature, and salinity, enabling farmers to promptly adjust pond conditions and reduce disease risks.
(seafood.vasep.com.vn) The year 2025 is considered a turning point for Vietnam’s shrimp seed industry as the sector faces the need for strong transformation in technology, production management, and gradual self-sufficiency in broodstock supply. These factors are seen as key to improving seed quality and strengthening the competitiveness of the shrimp industry amid increasingly demanding market requirements.
(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In February 2026, Vietnam’s shrimp exports reached nearly USD 310 million, up 17% year-on-year. Cumulatively for the first two months of the year, shrimp export value totaled USD 690 million, an increase of 20% compared with the same period last year. Compared with the 22% growth recorded in January, the pace of increase in February slowed somewhat, reflecting seasonal factors as the Lunar New Year holiday partially disrupted processing and shipment activities. Nevertheless, the nearly 20% growth in the first two months indicates that shrimp orders from Vietnam are maintaining a more positive trend than in the same period last year.
(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to the latest statistics for January 2026, Vietnam’s pangasius export value to major market blocs recorded encouraging growth compared with the same period last year, indicating that consumption demand is gradually recovering.
