As usual, demand for raw materials in November sharply increases for the Christmas and New Year holidays in importing markets. Therefore, fishery output and farmed seafood prices tend to rise.
Farmers are actively harvesting pangasius with good yields to meet the needs of importers in the end of the year, raw material prices are high and stable compared to the previous month. Currently, prices of pangasius raw materials were in the range of VND 20,800-22,000/kg. This also led to a rise in pangasius seed. Pangasius production in the Mekong Delta provinces estimated at 1,144,464 MT; up 1.9% compared to the same period last year. The area for pangasius farming in Jan-Nov 2016 touched 5,531 hectares, up 1% year on year. Some localities which gained good yields were Dong Thap province with 361,238 MT (+5.6%); Can Tho province with 152,406 MT (+7.8%); and Ben Tre province with 162,630 MT (+5.9%).
Brackish water shrimp farming was quite favorable. Accordingly, thanks to less volatility in the weather, the area with diseased shrimp went down, and shrimp output recorded the positive growth with stable prices. According to reports from the provinces of the Mekong Delta, the area for black tiger shrimp was 566,349 hectares (+1.4%) with the production of 232,044 MT (+2.3%). That for whiteleg shrimp estimated at 65,948 hectares (+2.9%) with the production of 210,815 MT (+2.2%).

While the price of 1 kg of shrimp hovers around 20 USD, the value of 1 kg of chitosan—extracted from shrimp—can soar to 500 USD. This highlights a significant challenge within the seafood processing industry.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Sao Ta Foods Joint Stock Company (FIMEX VN - HoSE: FMC) concluded Q3/2024 with significant growth in revenue. Specifically, Sao Ta Food recorded revenue of VND 2,845 billion, a 58.6% increase year-on-year. The company's profit after tax reached VND 95 billion, up 6.2%.
VASEP's Seafood Export Report for the third quarter of 2024 provides a comprehensive overview of Vietnam's seafood export performance in the first nine months, with impressive results reaching $7.2 billion—an increase of 9% over the same period last year. In the third quarter alone, seafood exports grew by 15%, totaling $2.8 billion. This growth is attributed to a recovery in demand and prices in key markets such as the U.S. and China, as well as the competitive advantage of value-added products in markets like Japan and Australia.
