The farming area in the province in the period touched 296,000 hectares, up 0.36% over the same period last year. The harvested area was 291,910 hectares, an increase of 0.66% year on year. These rises were driven by favorable weather with much rain and a decrease in salinity in recent months, which facilitates aquaculture activities.
In Oct 2016, aquaculture production of the province reached 23.50 thousand MT, up 2.17% over the previous month, and up 5.86% year on year. The figure in Jan-Oct 2016 estimated at 234.50 thousand MT, completing 70% of the plan, down 7.79% over the same period last year.
In Oct 2016, the production of post-larvae black tiger shrimp in the locality amounted to 1.1 billion pieces. The figure in Jan-Oct 2016 estimated at 8.6 billion ones. The output of post-larvae black tiger and whiteleg shrimp from other sources into the province in Oct 2016 reached 1.4 billion ones, the figure in Jan-Oct 2016 estimated at 12.15 billion ones.
In Oct 2016, marine catch in Ca Mau province hit 18.20 thousand MT, down 0.55% from last month, but up 42.19% over the same period last year. The figure in Jan-Oct 2016 estimated at 176.60 thousand MT, completing 90.56% of the plan, up 12.22% from a year before. This was driven by relatively favorable weather for fishing activities, fishermen invested in fishing nets and high-capacity machines. Moreover, the number of fishing increased thanks to new vessels with the capacity of 20-50 CV which fishmen catched inshore along U Minh, Tran Van Thoi and Phu Tan District.
