VASEP to request VCCI holding a meeting on union dues

(vasep.com.vn) In April 6th 2012, Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) announced the official letter No. 38/2012/CV-VASEP petitioning Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) to hold a conference to hear opinions of relating Associations.

The conference will discuss about extracting 2 percent from workers’ salary for union dues. The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor submits the draft of a new union law to the National Assembly and plans to fix an extraction of 2 percent from workers’ salary for union dues.

The draft of a new union law represented some irrational points. Based on this, some Associations which represent and defend their members’ legitimate and legal interests such as Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association (LEFASO) and VASEP considered their members’ petitions on new union law. On behalf of their members, Associations petitioned the National Assembly of Vietnam, the government to amend union law to suit with current state in order to ease difficulties and strengthen competitive capacity of enterprises. The above Associations represent economic fields which attract the largest number of workers in Vietnam.

To support enterprises, VASEP desires and would like to petition VCCI to hold an urgent conference to gather opinions of Associations about the issue. On behalf of other Associations, VASEP suggests that the National Assembly and the government should consider and amend new union law to be appropriate to the actual situation.
