Vietnamese crabs in high demand in China

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnam’s fishery exports reached $7.16 billion in the first 9 months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 8.5%, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) has reported.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In July 2024, Vietnam's fish cake and surimi exports declined. The export value reached just over 24 million USD, down 3% over the same period. In the first 7 months of 2024, the cumulative export of this product group reached 152 million USD, down 13%.

Recently, traders in the provinces are purchasing red tilapia and tilapia at 50,000–51,000 VND/kg, the highest price ever. With this price, fish are exported to rafts, and farmers earn a 9,000–10,000 VND/kg profit.

In the first six months of this year, cephalopod exports to this market reached 114 million USD, a 13% increase compared to the same period last year. In the second quarter of 2024, cephalopod exports to South Korea reached 58 million USD, up 13% year-on-year.

Just in June 2024 alone, the import value increased by 71% compared to the same period in 2023, reaching $28 million. In the first 6 months of 2024, the cumulative export turnover reached $125 million, up 75%.

In May 2024, the export value of this product group increased by 52%. Cumulatively, in the first five months of 2024, Vietnam's oyster export value reached nearly 7 million USD, up 31% compared to the same period in 2023.

The export value in this month reached only over 23 million USD, down 25% compared to the same period in 2023. In the first five months of 2024, Vietnam's exports of surimi and fish cake reached over 106 million USD, down 15%.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Following a continuous decline in 2023 and the first quarter of 2024, Vietnam's clam exports to the European Union (EU) exhibited an upward trend in the second quarter of 2024. However, the overall export value remained lower compared to the same period in 2022.
