An Giang: Prices of red tilapia and tilapia increase sharply
(seafood.vasep.com.vn)The red and yellow tilapia prices in An Giang have increased sharply, reaching a new record. Recently, traders in the provinces are purchasing red tilapia and tilapia at 50,000–51,000 VND/kg, the highest price ever. With this price, fish are exported to rafts, and farmers earn a 9,000–10,000 VND/kg profit.
An Giang is one of 5 localities in the Mekong Delta region where fishermen raise fish with large output. Currently, the water surface area for raising fish in the province is about 3,300 hectares with 4,354 cages and 1,261 households. The province has 5,990 households raising ponds and 1,793 raising other species (eels, soft-shell turtles, frogs, crabs, snails, etc.). The output of farmed fish supplied to the market each year reaches 600,000 tons, of which red tilapia and tilapia reach tens of thousands of tons/year.
In addition to the domestic market, red tilapia and tilapia are also strongly consumed in countries, including Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, the EU, Japan, Belgium, Italy, and the UK... with a turnover of 6 million USD in 2023.
