Tuna exports to ASEAN up

(vasep.com.vn) Vietnam tuna exports in August 2015 continued to post a year-on-year reduction of nearly 10% to reach US$39.8 million. The figure in the first 8 months of the year hit US$303.5 million, down 7% year on year. The decline was attributable to lower demand from main importing market and year-on-year drop in global tuna price.

Among total tuna exported in Jan-Aug 2015, tuna HS code 0303 took the largest proportion of 45%, followed by canned tuna with the proportion of 33%. Proportion for frozen/live/fresh tuna reported a slight increase comparing to the early 2015.

Tuna in the US is on the rise

In August 2015, Vietnam tuna exports to its largest market, the US, surpassed US$16 million, but still 1.6% lower that last year's result. The first 8 months of 2015 experienced a 11% year on year rise of tuna exports to this market, reaching US$127.3 million. 

Through August, exports of frozen/live/fresh tuna to the US touched US$78.8 million, up 19% year on year. Exports of processed tuna to the market reached US$48.4 million, up 0.3% year on year.

Tuna exports to EU: look for recovery

Vietnam tuna export to EU was still in search of recovery. The export value in Jan-Aug 2015 reached nearly US$69 million, down 25% year on year.

Spain, one of EU's top 3 tuna importers reported postivie growth in tuna imports from Vietnam. In Jan-Aug 2015, exports of frozen/live/fresh tuna to the market touched US$31.4 million and exports of processed and canned tuna were US$37.5 million.

Exports to ASEAN ups 8%

ASEAN, ranking the third in Vietnam's top importing markets for tuna, reported 8% rise to US$23.3 million in Jan-Aug 2015. Vietnam tuna exports to Thailand, the biggest market in the bloc, stood at more than US$1.5 million.

Vietnam's canned tuna sales in Japan rise 

Vietnam tuna sales to Japan in Jan-Aug 2015 reached US$14 million, while sales of frozen/live/fresh tuna reached US$9 million. Canned tuna sales to the market, being quite modest at US$4.8 million, increased by 16%.

Vietnam raw shrimp output and prices increased

(vasep.com.vn) According to data from the Department of Fisheries, as of March 20, 2024, the shrimp farming area reached about 348,670 hectares, including 334,799 hectares of black tiger prawn farming area and 13,871 hectares of white leg shrimp farming area.

Would 2024 see Vietnam tuna exports hit the billions?

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnam's tuna exports reached around $84 million in March 2024, a 17% rise. Vietnam's total tuna export revenue for the first three months of 2024 was $215 million, up 19% from the same time in 2023 but down 17% from 2022. It is anticipated that tuna exports may miss the billion-dollar mark as in 2022 at this rate and the difficulties the business faces.

The UK- A stable market for Vietnamese pangasius

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to data from General Department of Vietnam Customs, the UK imported nearly $3 million worth of pangasius from Vietnam in the first half of March 2024. Cumulative pangasius exports to this market reached $12 million as of March 15, 2024, down 3% from the same period last year.

Agro-forestry-fisheries products nearly double in Q1

Total export revenue from agro-forestry-fisheries products in the first three months of this year is estimated at 13.53 billion USD, up 21.8% over the same period last year; and this results in a trade surplus of 3.36 billion USD, a rise of 96.5%, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

Cephalopod exports are expected to decrease slightly in the first quarter of the year

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to data from Vietnam Customs, as of March 15, 2024, Vietnam's cephalopod exports reached more than 109 million USD, a slight decrease of 3% compared to the same period in 2023. In the first quarter of this year, Vietnam's cephalopod exports are expected to reach about 136 million USD, down 2% over the same period last year.

Portugal ramps up tuna imports from Vietnam in first two months of 2024

(vasep.com.vn) According to statistics from the International Trade Centre (ITC), Portugal is the 6th largest tuna importer in the EU. In 2023, the country's tuna imports from other countries increased by 9% compared to 2022, reaching nearly 241 million USD.
