According to the latest Statistical Bulletin prepared by the Ministry of Production (Produce), in the tenth month of 2012 there were no fish landed for the fishmeal industry, and in October 2011 only 800 tonnes.
Furthermore, in the first 10 months of 2012 3.2 million tonnes of fish resources were used for indirect consumption, compared to 4.7 million tonnes in the same period of 2011, ie 32.2 per cent less.
In assessing this period, total landings fell by 27.5 per cent compared to the same period last year, from 5.8 million tonnes in 2011 to 4.2 million tonnes.
Last October 91,400 tonnes of fish for human consumption were landed, compared to 85,600 tonnes the same month of 2011.
During the first 10 months of 2012, a total of 1,023,400 tonnes of resources for direct consumption were used, 7.1 per cent less compared to the previous year (1,101,100 tonnes).
Last October 52,500 tonnes for the preparation of frozen products were landed, while in the same month of 2011 landings reached 45,900 tonnes.
Between January and October 2012, the accumulated landings for the industry totalled 572,500 tonnes, 9.3 per cent less than in the same period of 2011, when 631,200 tonnes were landed.
On the other hand, fishery resources used by the canning industry in October 2012 totalled 6,400 tonnes, compared with 14,500 tonnes in the same month last year.
Between January and October 2012 there was a decrease of 42 per cent in the resources used by the canning industry: 106,200 tonnes compared to 183,200 tonnes in the same period of 2011.
In the first 10 months of 2012 318,800 tonnes of resources to be consumed fresh were landed, 23.5 per cent more than in the same period in 2011 (258,100 tonnes).
